I have succeeded on some level today. I was able to bring back to life someone who was dead. The subject was David Starsfiend. He had been slated for cremation but I took ashes from the fire pit and passed them off as his remains. I knew I was close and needed a fresh cadaver. I removed the old dead blood and replaced it with my own formula based off the strange writing in my journals. I then applied a large charge of electricity that started his heart beating. I waited as slowly respirations came back and it opened its eyes. I say it because even as I succeeded I also have failed.

You see where once a gentle, loving man existed I created a monster. He tore at his restraints and screamed in desperation and rage. He took a step towards me and for a moment I was afraid, but somehow it knew I was it’s creator and then turned and tore into the swamp. I followed him till I found him tearing at the flesh of a raccoon with ravenous hunger. I was able to get him back to the manor and into the dungeon again. He has a voracious appetite for raw meat, especially human flesh.

I have been able to train the former Mr. Starsfiend to tend my dungeon and do my bidding. He has superior strength and has been very useful in digging up cadavers and moving bodies as well as other tasks requiring heavy lifting. I have taken to calling him The Keeper something my daughter came up with while I was pondering what to do with the housekeeper after she found a human hand in my daughter’s room. My daughter smiled at me as I was tying up the maid and simple stated take her to the keeper. There was not much left of her after he was done, his appetite is almost insatiable. That reminds me I must not forget to arrange for another housekeeper for Mr. Vourinski. I will have to set right away to conditioning her as soon as she arrives to prevent another incident.

The keeper has been such a surprise. He has begun to speak and can communicate some simple wants and desires, mostly dealing with hunger and his desire to inflict pain. I have used him in my experiments to produce a sweeter blood from my subjects. The more pain and fear I can induce the more potent their blood is in producing the transcendental state I need to write and translate the forbidden language and the keeper is most skilled at torturing a subject to the very verge of death before letting me slowly drain the sweet life giving liquid.

I have had to lock John Doe away. The keeper and John Doe were locked in a battle that nearly destroyed my lab. Seeing as John Doe’s violent fits have become more frequent and violent I have locked him in a cell and chained him to the floor. I still have some limited use for him but I can not risk him harming my lab or disrupting my experiments.

I chained the keeper to my table and began a living autopsy on him. He did not resist he looked at me with knowing eyes, as if he knew a greater purpose was served by submitting. His blood was a black putrid bile like substance almost sticky to the touch and thick. His organs continued to function long after being removed and surprisingly he was still alive even after removing the heart, lungs, stomach and intestines. I was amazed that when given fresh human blood the organs even responded more vibrantly. Perhaps it is this need for blood that fuels his ferocious appetite for flesh. I worked long into the next day until I had removed and replaced every organ. Upon finishing my last stitch he snapped the chains and stepped towards me, he looked at me with those cold dead eyes and I felt for sure he would devour me, you could see the hunger in his eyes, the pure animal instinct to feed, but he turned and quickly made his way down the hallway and out into the night. He will fall upon some foolish soul and feed, I wish only that I could keep pace to watch, perhaps I will starve him for a few days and then bring him a subject so that I can study the effects of starvation on his appetite.
